Llanrwst
Llanrwst, the hidden jewel of North Wales, is situated in the
perfect location to explore Snowdonia, the Conwy Valley and the
North Wales Coast. Llanrwst was originally the only bridging point
across the river Conwy and the bridge is known as Pont y Perl (the
bridge of the pearl) because an exquisite pearl was found when
the foundation stone was being laid.
The hump back bridge is featured in many photographs and was built
in 1636 and probably designed by Inigo Jones. Near the bridge is
'Tu Hwnt i'r Bont' once a 15th century courtyard and now a tearoom
owned by the National Trust. Within easy walking distance of Gwydir
Castle (open to the public) and the church of St Grwst built in
1170. Llanrwst is an ideal centre to explore Snowdonia, 4 miles
from Bettws-y-Coed, 11 miles from Llandudno - steeped in history
and beauty.
